How quickly children learn a second language depends on many factors.
Between two and three years of schooling immigrant children generally can speak good German, reading and writing. Also German children can not yet read and write perfect German during the early school years.
Older children (10-16 years) usually need a longer time (3 to 6 years) to master German at a good level. Of course there are exceptions.
Don’t put your child under pressure! The best way to every child when it has fun and joy doing something. Support your child with good conditions for learning. These include, for example, a separate workstation. Support friendships with German children.
